Explorer safety
Quick reminders for safe, fun exploration. Review these anytime, especially before heading outside.
Wear gloves with unknown specimens
If you're touching plants, fungi, or animals you can't identify, put gloves on. Some things you find in the wild can irritate skin.
Never taste or eat samples
Not even a nibble. Even harmless-looking plants and mushrooms can be poisonous. Photos only.
Explore with your teacher or a grown-up
Always let a teacher or adult know where you're going and what you're doing. Field exploration is more fun (and safer) with a buddy.
Wash your hands afterwards
Soap and water for at least 20 seconds after handling anything from outside. Especially before eating a snack.
Leave what you find
Take a photo, not the specimen. Micro-Lens works with photos โ you don't need to pick, uproot, or capture anything.
Questions about a specific specimen or activity? Ask your teacher or a grown-up before you touch it.
